Mac Miller - born Malcolm McCormick on January 19, 1992, is a 20 year old rapper from Pittsburgh, PA. He is the youngest of two sons and grew up in Point Breeze. Mac played football, lacrosse, and basketball. He also used to play the drums, guitar, bass, and piano. Mac, Jimmy, and TreeJay all started smoking weed in the 5th grade, and have been best friends ever since. Mac transferred to the same Catholic school as Jimmy and TreeJay because he wanted to be with his hommies. Mac went on to a private highschool for his first two years, and eventually went to Taylor Allderdice High where he graduated from in 2010.
Mac began freestyling at a young age, while him and all the hommies would get high in their friends attic. His friends convinced him to start recording because he was that good. At 15, Mac formed the group “The Ill Spoken” with fellow Pittsburgh emcee Beedie. The duo released the mixtape “How High.” Mac released his first solo mixtape entitled “But My Mackin Aint Easy” and sold it within his highschool. His first DJ-sponsored mixtape, “The Jukebox” was released in 2009. His second mixtape, “The Highlife” was released early in 2010. Mac gained much respect through those mixtapes and was eventually signed with Rostrum Records in the summer of 2010. His third mixtape, released under Rostrum Records, “KIDS” (Kicking Incredibly Dope Shit) was released in August 2010. KIDS was notably Mac’s most successful mixtape, gaining him thousands of fans and media buzz.
Now with countless solo performances under his belt (including sharing the stage with the likes of Young Jeezy, DJ Unk, Big Sean, Boaz and Wiz Khalifa) Mac Miller is stepping out on his own as a solo artist. His solo efforts focus on creating progressive music for the hip hop genre and though Mac has a penchant for the ladies (that tends to spill into his music) he still touches on a variety of topics by combining raw lyrical skill with creative song writing and modern production. Right now, Mac is carving out his own lane within the industry, with two missions: making his supporters proud and becoming one of music’s most sought-out talents.
